The Annual Christmas Costco Trip

posted in: Life in Japan | 0

Last year in December was my first trip to Costco in Japan.  I went a total of 3 times this year and each time was a lot of fun. (Remember your reading a gal who used to go to Sam’s Club in America as a date with her husband!)  In many ways it is like entering “Little America” as my friend says.  It’s fun to see what seasonal items the store has and of course have free refills in a regular sized cup!

On this trip I took two Japanese friends with me so they could share in the experience.  The drive was about 2.5 hours, we spent about 5-6 hours actually shopping, and another 3 hours getting home.  In total we had 4 carts full and spent close to $2,000!  My friends were amazed at the store because they had never seen anything like it.  At points it was more fun for me to watch their faces as they looked at all the different products, sometimes having no idea what something was.

In total we bought for 10 different people and the Annual Nisshin Church Dinner (over 120+ people attended.)  We had 6 turkeys and 3 spiral hams as part of our purchase!!  I wasn’t sure we could fit everything in our car, but we did…barely.  I was completely exhausted by the end of the day, but had a great trip and a lot of fun with my friends.  I now have 3 months to recharge before I head back! 🙂
