Japan is well-known as being a country with many obstacles and challenges to the gospel. Despite centuries of evangelistic efforts, the Christian population remains less than 1%. One of the many challenges facing missionaries is how to contextualize the gospel so that Japanese ears can hear and hearts can receive the message. We trust and rely on the Holy Spirit to change the hearts of the Japanese so that they can receive the message, but we must present the message in a way that is understandable and relates to the Japanese context. A fellow missionary, Roger Lowther, is trying to do this using the arts. Roger came and played the organ for the second concert in our concert series we are doing as an outreach. 62 people came and heard him not only skillfully play the organ, but also teach how each of Bach’s pieces point to and tells about God. These events are a good way us to get to know people in the community and to share the gospel with them through the music that they enjoy. Please pray for our next concert which will take place around January.
