Today we held two funerals in the church. In Japan the deceased are typically buried within a few days of dying. One woman was a relative of a church member who had no family of her own. The other was an older man who was a faithful member of the church.
This was the first funeral we attended in Japan. It is definitely quite different than in America. In Japan there are quite strict guidelines for funerals. Mostly everyone wears black, and all men wear a black tie. Women can wear accessories, if they are a small strand of pearls. We rushed at the last minute to buy clothes for the kids and the correct tie.
We are reminded that life on Earth doesn’t last forever. We also were reminded Christians do not grieve without hope. Because of Christ we are able to grieve with hope in a Risen Savior!
