Many have asked us to send our response to the break-in that occurred at our home on July 4th. This is the first e-mail we sent out on July 5, 2009.
“15See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. 16Rejoice always, 17pray without ceasing, 18give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19Do not quench the Spirit.”
I Thessalonians 5:15-19
We write to you thankful for God’s goodness and faithfulness, yet devastated and overwhelmed.
Last night our home was broken into and many of our personal belongings were stolen. We lost all of our personal electronics down to cell phone chargers, every bit of my jewelry, tools, drills, etc. Much of our stuff was strewn about and blood from the thief was on various things left behind…thankfully with finger prints. Although we are saddened by the state of our house God, as always, is faithful and in control. Out of everything taken they missed seeing Michael’s work laptop…although found both of ours and left the Taylor guitar (on its stand where they broke in). I received this as a gift from my father in-law and it immensely special to me. They used a knife to break into a window in our house and praise God Michael was out at a 4th party and therefore wasn’t home. (For those who don’t know I am visiting VA to spend the weekend with my best friend who came in town.) How great is God’s faithfulness to not only protect us physically, but also to leave behind such special treasures to us.
Please pray for us. We are still committed to Parker Street and are more aware of the evil that exists in our neighborhood yet also the need for the Gospel. We pray that God would use this time in our lives for us to proclaim his glory and show that earthly treasures are truly dust compared to the eternal treasures we have in Christ. Pray for us to grieve well over our losses and fears that are starting to set in. Pray for wisdom as we work through this process and have to make decisions…most of which we don’t even know yet. Most of all pray for those who stole from us. Yes, pray for justice but more then that pray God would work in their hearts to understand his grace and pray that they would come to know his forgiveness as Michael and I have been blessed to know.
We thank you for your love, support and encouragement!
Michael and Cathalain Carter
